Due to the relatively small size of the Institute of Didactics of Physics at the University of Münster which is the part of the University of Münster, engaging in the OREO Project we had to reach out beyond the reaches of our Institute to Pilot our Materials.
With the help of another Institute, we held one Piloting Event with students in place where we presented the materials and engaged the students in discussions and instructed them in the use of the materials developed during the OREO Project.
To engage the rest of the students we talked to students directly during multiple different occasions. With permission we went into different courses and experiments held during several weeks at the institute, as the physics institutes are responsible for the education of not only physics students but also students from other areas of the university like medicine students and others that engage with physics only as their secondary subjects.
We brought the materials closer to hundreds of students in which many of the engaged with the materials we provided, and some of them signed up for the Piloting, using this unusual approach both as a dissemination possibility into multiple subjects as well as signing up students for our piloting.
This was also chosen to see how well the materials work in an unguided setting for the students working from home or in small groups in the many workplaces like computer rooms the UoM provides its students with.
Our piloting was quite successful for both settings and showed us that the materials created hold up in multiple different educational settings for the student’s day to day live as we gained positive feedback both through the online questionnaire and oral feedback directly by the students alone and in groups.
