The OREO project was prominently featured at the International Conference on Information, Communication Technologies in Education (ICICTE 2025), held in Greece. Within the session titled “Empowering AI Awareness in Higher Education – The OREO Project”, partners from across Europe presented the project’s key results and innovative approaches to Artificial Intelligence education. The session was moderated by Dr. Mirela Pachou, from the Laboratory of Law and Informatics (LLI) at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Throughout the session, participants explored how the OREO project contributes to raising awareness and promoting the ethical, safe, and inclusive use of AI in the higher education sector. The presentations reflected the project’s multidimensional approach, combining legal, educational, and technological perspectives.

Dr. Mirela Pachou and Despina Sarrigeorgiou (PARAGON-eduTech, Greece) opened the discussion by presenting “OREO: Operationalising Ethics and Rights in European AI Education”, which outlined the project’s vision of embedding ethical principles and human rights in AI-related learning practices across Europe. Their intervention highlighted the growing need for coherent and rights-based frameworks that guide the use of AI in educational contexts.

This was followed by Maximilian Alexander Loch and Connor Wundes from the University of Münster (Germany), who introduced the OREO Curriculum as a key educational outcome of the project. Their presentation, “Educating for Meaningful and Safe Use of AI-Controlled Chatbots”, showcased how OREO equips both educators and students with practical knowledge to engage critically with AI technologies, particularly chatbots, while ensuring digital safety and ethical awareness.

Next, Rubén Vega Gutiérrez from Fundación Siglo22 (Spain) and Anastasia Pyrini from PARAGON-eduTech (Greece) shared insights into the creative process of transforming OREO’s ethical board game into an interactive digital learning platform. Under the title “From Board Game to Platform: Co-Creating an Inclusive Digital AI Learning Experience”, they described how the project connects game-based learning with online education, fostering collaboration, accessibility, and engagement in exploring AI ethics.

Finally, Professor Mart Susi from Tallinn University (Estonia) concluded the session with the presentation “Law, Ethics, and the OREO Vision: Building AI Awareness Across the HED Sector”. His talk emphasized the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and policy alignment to build ethical AI awareness throughout higher education institutions in Europe.
